5 months old - Joshua

Once again I'm playing catch up and trying to get a few things recorded before you turn 6 months old in a few days.  Here is a little information about you at 5 months:

* Your big brother is still super crazy about you.  He calls you Joshua, Joshy, Munch Munch, Munchy, Precious Baby and Cush Cush.  I don't know where he came up with all of these names.

*  We took you took the Dr. on December 10 for an awful sounding cough and he prescribed you your first prescription, an oral steroid, that you had to take twice a day for 5 days.  You were a little trooper and took your medicine without any issues.

*  You have the sweetest little smile and when you smile your whole face and eyes light up.

*  You started wearing size 2 diapers the last week of December.

*  You have found your toes

*  You are apparently already a mulitasker.  One night while you were nursing I looked down to discover that you were nursing and sucking your thumb at the same time.  I'm not really sure how that is even possible but you were making it work.

*  On January 1 you rolled over from your tummy to your back for the first time.  You don't do it very often, as you hate being on your tummy and usually throw a fit, but you definitely know how.  You have still not rolled over from your back to your tummy.

*  You are still nursing and have not had any formula.  You have only had a bottle 2 or 3 times.

*  You are learning how to grab a hold of anything that comes within reach. and you put everything in your mouth.

*  You still really enjoy bath time and LOVE being held.

*  You are still not sleeping through the night and wake up 2-3 times, if not more, at night.

Nana and Papa got you this cute little bear for Christmas.  They bought it at Silver Dollar City when we all went (our family, Nana, Papa and Grandma) to see the Christmas lights.

24 Days of Scooty

I had debated back and forth for a while if I was really interested in hosting a house guest for the whole month of December but after some peer pressure from blogs and Pinterest I finally decided to cave so on December 1 our little friend Scooty came to stay.

We went up to Caleb's room that afternoon and there sitting on the bed was Scooty along with a book telling us all about him.  Caleb didn't know exactly what to think at first and was wondering how he got on his bed and immediately started asking me if I put him there but he later decided that I didn't.

Caleb named him all by himself. I'm not sure where the name "Scooty" came from but when we asked Caleb what we should name him that is what he came up with.

Caleb loved his new elf friend and enjoyed waking up each morning to find out what silly things he had done while we were sleeping.  Caleb would come into our room every morning and immediately would let us know whether or not he had found Scooty.  He would always say "that silly Scooty" or "mom you won't believe what Scooty is doing".  One of his favorite mornings was the very first morning after he arrived and Caleb found him in the kitchen eating one of the sugar cookies we had made.  He got the biggest kick out of it.

Here's a little peak and the different places we found Scooty.

I'll admit I really enjoyed having Scooty around just as much as Caleb did and was a little sad to see him leave on Christmas Eve.  On the morning of Christmas Eve we found Scooty holding baby Jesus in our nativity scene with the following letter for Caleb:

Dear Caleb,

I can’t believe that today is my last day with you and tonight I leave to go back to the North Pole to live with Santa.  Thanks so much for letting me come and stay with you.  I really enjoyed getting to hang out at your house and watch over you.  Santa and I are really proud of you and hope you enjoy your presents.  Don’t forget that even though presents are really awesome the true meaning of Christmas is so much more and what is really special about Christmas is remembering the birth of Jesus and how He was the best gift that we could ever receive.
Continue to work on obeying your Dad and Mom the first time and being a good example for Joshua.  Work hard in school and be sure and take your time on your school work.  Always remember to have gentle hands with your friends and use kind words.  Continue to say your prayers and pay attention at church.
I’ll miss hanging out with you while I’m away at the North Pole and can’t wait to see you again next year.
Merry Christmas,
Scooty

As soon as we finished reading Caleb the letter he said "What, he's coming back next year and I'm not on the naughty list".

We are already looking forward to Scooty's visit next year.

Ho Ho Ho

We took the boys to visit Santa the first of December.  Joshua fell asleep while we waited in line so he was Mr. Serious as he sat on Santa's lap and didn't want to give us any smiles.  Much to our surprise Caleb switched up what he told Santa he wanted and asked for a firetruck and Star Wars spaceship.  He previously had been telling us that he wanted Santa to bring him Police Station Lego, Beyblades, a light saber, various other Lego and anything else that he had seen on a commercial or in a sales ad.

Seize the Day

What a beautiful day!  Friday was one of those days that could have gone all wrong and could have been filled with a lot of crankiness as David and I did not get much sleep Thursday night, or the last few nights for that matter, as Joshua has been a bit out of sorts since Thanksgiving.  I woke up feeling like I had taken cold medicine before I went to bed, which I hadn't, and was wishing for a few more hours of sleep.  It was one of those mornings where I willed myself and told myself it will be a good day, I will not waste this day on being cranky but will instead enjoy time with my boys so a spur of the moment decision after picking Caleb up from school landed us at the park feeding the geese.  I'm so glad I chose to make the day count as Caleb, Joshua and I had a great time hanging out .

I was so proud of how Caleb handled himself at the park because I think a lot of little kids would have thrown their bread and ran away screaming as he was literally swarmed by geese and ducks eagerly awaiting for him to give them some bread.  As soon as we got out of the car they spotted us and started making their way toward us "honking" at the top of their lungs.  I'll admit I got a bit nervous and wouldn't have blamed Caleb at all if he didn't want any part of feeding them as they were everywhere.  I was also a little concerned that their noise might upset Joshua but he was as cool as a cucumber.

It was beautiful outside and was nice to just enjoy watching Caleb play and just soak everything around him in.  He played on the playground, picked up what he calls "treasures" (aka rocks and sticks) and we threw leaves in the stream and followed them as they floated away.

It was so sweet, while sitting on the rocks watching the geese and ducks he turns to me and was so excited as he explained that he could tell how they were swimming and could see them kicking their feet under the water and then he demonstrated for me how they were doing it.

Friday night we also enjoyed some family time which consisted of pizza and decorating our gingerbread house.  Caleb has been wanting to decorate a gingerbread house as soon as he saw them in the store and apparently this has become a family tradition for us.

And what night would be complete without some random pictures.
